HOW WE CAN HELP: dRC provides assistance in 4 core areas
1 INFORMATION AND REFERRAL- We can direct you to other local, state and national disability resources that maybe able to help you with your concern or problem.
2 PEER SUPPORT- We can provide you with an opportunity to talk to someone who is also disabled to share with you their personal experience and to help you overcome any obstacles that may be preventing you from being more independent.
3 INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS- Our staff at dRC can provide you with tips to be a better self-advocate, create a budget, learn how to access community resources, educate you on your rights under ADA, the Fair Housing Act and others.
4 ADVOCACY- We can provide advocacy both on the individual and state level. We can give you tips on how to be your own self-advocate. As well as, investigate concerns/claims that your civil rights have been violated, conduct ADA trainings and accessibility surveys. Help you appeal a SSI/SSDI claim, and advocate for inclusion in society.
OTHER SERVICES WE PROVIDE:
Community Companions - a social networking group for individuals ages 18-40 to meet new people and build healthy friendships.
Parent Advocacy Council for Exceptional Children - a monthly meeting for parents with children with special needs to discuss school related challenges. Guest speakers monthly address resources and advocacy efforts to bring about change.
