The mission of the disAbility Resource Center (dRC) is to empower persons with disabilities to become and maintain their independence in their communities. The disAbility Resource Center provides services to people with disabilities of all ages and all types of of disabilities and those who support them.
The disAbility Resource Center is a non-profit organization that provides non-residential, community-based and consumer-directed services to persons with disabilities in the counties of New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, Columbus, and Onslow. Our goal is to help individuals with disabilities become fully integrated into society. The dRC is a Center for Independent Living (CIL). Independent living is not defined in terms of living on one’s own, being employed, or having an active social life. These are aspects of living independently. Independent living has to do with self-determination. It is having the right and the opportunity to pursue a course of action. And it is having the freedom to fail and to learn from own failures, just as other people do.
